The GEECT Conference was held in Sofia

On October 22-26, 2012, the GEECT (European division of CILECT) Conference of on the methodology of admission, course work and diploma assessment criteria participated by representatives from over 20 European film schools was held in Sofia, Bulgaria.

VGIK was represented by Rector V.S. Malyshev, Vice-Rector E.A. Rusinova
and Head of the International Affairs Department T.F. Tursunova.

E. A. Rusinova took part in the panel session “Course Work Assessment Criteria of Sound Directors and Editors” and gave a thorough survey of the work of the VGIK Sound Directing and Editing Department.

T.F. Tursunova held the panel on student admission criteria at VGIK paying special attention to selecting of applicants and discovering their creative abilities in accordance with the chosen profession.

The Conference was organized with the help of the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts ( NAFTA). Upon completion the guests visited the Academy where they watched a puppet show performed by the Acting Department students and attended the Closing Ceremony of the “Early Bird” Student Film Festival.
The social program of the Conference included a visit to the famous Bulgarian
”Nu Boyana” Film Studio, which has been recently renovated.

During the Conference the results of the CILECT Prize-2011 international film school competition were announced.

The film “Reaching for Mama” made by the VGIK graduate Olga Tomenko (workshop of A.V. Sirenko) has come in a good third for the first time ever during the history of this honorable contest.
