21 – 24 November, 2013, the annual Convention of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) took place in Boston (USA), where Stanislav Sokolov, professor of VGIK, director of animated films, presented his project of a full-length animated film «Hoffmanniade» at which he is working presently at the film studio «SOYUZMULTFILM».
The director showed the half-hour completed film «Hoffmanniade. Part one. Veronika» for the Convention participants.
At the round table sitting a documentary of the American director Kevin McNeer about shooting of «Hoffmanniade» was also presented.
Besides the screen materials Stanislav Sokolov displayed sketches of puppets, decoration designs and some puppet characters from the film and spoke about the creative tasks of the project and the second film part shooting.
During the discussion the director answered the questions concerning the topicality of Hoffmann’s works, the state sponsorship of the animated cinema in Russia, the means with which classical and contemporary animation influences the audience, developing the artistic taste of children and teenagers with help of animation and young animators training in VGIK.
