The 2nd International Summer School was organized by VGIK in the city of Azov, Rostov region from July 18 till August 3, 2010. Its theme was “South of Russia: History and Modern Reality”.
This year we decided to broaden the limits of students’ creativity and invited not only students of directing, cinematography, production departments, but also acting students of Russian, European and CIS film schools.
All in all there were 42 participants, 13 of which were students from foreign countries (Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, France).
The film directing students were given 2-3 days to discuss their ideas with the masters and teachers of the school. The shootings took 4-5 days, and the editing process lasted 4 days. As for acting students, they had to perform exercises in speech, dance, stage movement, etc. under the supervision of VGIK leading professors.
One of the goals of the summer school was to train actors to work on film set. The trainings were carried out on the material of I.Bergman’s “Scenes from Marriage” and A.Chekhov’s “Chayka” – both interior and location shootings.
The Final Gala Concert, which included 9 documentaries shot by the participants and the concert of the acting students, took place on the last day of the Summer School. In the end, the prizes were given to the winners by the Rector of VGIK Vladimir Malyshev and the Art-Director of the Summer School Vladimir Fokin:
