31 VGIK INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FESTIVAL

INTERNATIONAL FILM COMPETITION

Article 1.

The aim of the traditional annual VGIK Student Festival is:

  • to present and value the latest student productions by Russian and international film and TV schools,
  • to attract attention to creativity of young generation of future professional film and TV makers,
  • to support creative, professional contacts and exchanges between film schools of the world.

The event serves as a forum reflecting wide spectrum of trends, traditions and tendencies in the world film education.

We expect it to be a real fest of youth to form world screen in future.

Article 2.

Jury.

The International Film Competition Jury will consist of prominent Russian and foreign filmmakers.

Article 3.

Awards.

To encourage young promising filmmakers the International Film Competition Jury will award the following prizes:

  • Prize for the best school film programme
  • Prize for the best feature
  • Prize for the best documentary
  • Prize for the best animation
  • Prize of the Student Jury for the best school film programme
  • Audience Award for the best school film programme

All the student works participating in the film competition will be given the Diploma of the XXXI INTERNATIONAL VGIK STUDENT FESTIVAL.

Article 4.

Festival venue: VGIK screening halls, other student non-commercial auditoriums.

Article 5.

Festival languages: Russian and English.

Submission.

Each school is invited to submit a film programme totaling a maximum of 40 minutes.

Only works (feature, documentary, animation) produced after June 2010 will be included in the competitive section.

The submitted films which are not in Russian or English require English subtitles.

The deadline for submitting entries is September 15, 2011.

Entry forms should be accomplished by:

  • 3 DVDs of the film programme
  • English dialogue list
  • 2-3 stills from the film (sent by e-mail)
  • 1 photo of the director (sent by e-mail)
  • Biography, filmography of the director

Competition programme of the Festival would be announced by e-mail and on our web-site not later than September 25, 2011.

The selected films for competition may be on 35 mm, 16 mm (optic only), Beta SP, mini DV, DVD (PAL only).They may be sent by post or brought by a film school representative coming to the Festival. In this case dialogue lists should be sent in advance.

The postage costs for sending prints to the Festival are covered by the participants, whereas the return costs are borne by the Festival. Please, inform the festival if you want us to send your DVD copy back to your film school.

When sending the films and cassettes, please, fill in the pro forma invoice, declaring the total value of less than 25$ USA for 35mm, 16 mm prints and 10$ USA for cassettes, DVDs.

Article 7.

Participants and Guests.

a. The Festival invites one representative and one student (preferably a film author) from each school providing lodging and 2 meals per day on the Festival account.

b. The festival doesn’t cover the travel costs.

c. Additional guests may also come on their own expense.

Article 8.

Invitations and visa arrangements.

To get Russian visas at Russian Consulate in your country in time please fax or e-mail the “Stay in Russia” form together with the first page of the international passport of the delegate to VGIK by September 20, 2011, mentioning guest address and the city where one will obtain Russian visa.
